Today Modulshtein creates IDM, downtempo, and indietronica, while MariQ is a theatre actress with an amazing voice and charm. Together they form MDSHMARIQ, an electronic music project from Estonia.
The duo was formed in 2024 during their work on a major theatre project. Their creative partnership resulted in Modulshtein’s fifth album, Whisper of Muted Lyrics. The album, released on vinyl and available on all music platforms, received positive reviews both in Estonia and internationally.
After the album’s release, the duo continued to develop their work: they filmed two music, performed at the Station Narva festival, embarked on a tour to present the album, and remained involved in the theatrical production. MDSHMARIQ combines experimentation with tradition, and theatrical expressiveness with musical innovation, creating a sound that resonates with audiences.
Modulshtein was founded in 2017 by composer Aleksandr Žedeljov, clarinetist Marten Altrov, and DJ Alexei Semennikhin (DJ Bandit). From the outset, the group’s music combined electronic rhythms, synthesizers, and virtuosic bass clarinet performances.
